Experimental Heart Failure Drug Eases Symptoms

Could help millions of people with heart failure symptoms:

Though the experimental drug significantly and safely improved the shortness of breath and other symptoms in people hospitalized with severe heart failure, it made no difference in death and rehospitalization rates. Dr. Gregg Fonarow, an American Heart Association spokesman from the University of California at Los Angeles, said: “What we really need are therapies that are going to improve the outcome.” The study was paid for by Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co. of Japan, the maker of the drug Tolvaptan, and was published online by The Journal of the American Medical Association.
