According to a story by The Associated Press, streaming exercise videos available online is the newest fitness trend. demandFITNESS (www.demandfitness.com) is prominently featured in the story as the leader of the pack of such Internet-based virtual gyms and offers over 150 fitness & health classes via the Internet, with more being added each week. Online classes range from traditional fare like aerobics and Pilates to innovative ones like fitness ballet and heavyweight yoga.
With the simple click of a mouse, users can exercise in their homes, offices or hotel rooms. Professional instructors develop a changing array of content. The Austin-based company now has about 100 customers accessing more than 80 workout choices. Plans range from about $15 a month to a day pass for 99 cents. New classes are often added, including niche areas like yoga for overweight people.
“You can work out when you want, where you want,” says co-founder John Webster.
The site also has the ability to tailor content to meet the needs of a large and diverse population. “We do not believe in a one-size-fits-all model,” Webster adds. “Individuals come from different backgrounds and have different goals. A fitness curriculum must reflect this.” demandFITNESS features niche-oriented content, designed to appeal to underserved communities, including business travelers, the elderly, prenatal/postnatal and those with limited mobility or who are overweight.
Members also have access to a number of unique features including a fully automated Fitness Tracker and nutritional information.
