Studies into Western style diets versus Eastern-style diets show differences:
While previous research has found links between a meat- and fat-heavy Western diet and several kinds of cancer, including heart disease and diabetes, this new study which looked at eating habits of 3000 women in Shanghai, China shows links between Western-style diets and breast cancer. The study concluded that older Chinese women who ate a Western-style diet loaded with meats and sweets appeared to have had a greater risk for breast cancer than women who ate mainly soy and vegetables. Lawrence Cheskin, an associate professor of international health and human nutrition at the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, said: “This isn’t a breakthrough, but it does add to the growing body of evidence that diet is related to breast cancer and other cancers.”
