HIV Encephalitis (AIDS-dementia complex)

I read about a young lady with HIV who had a seizure, and realized that HIV encephalitis is a seizure resulted from the human immunodeficiency virus, or HIV. According to the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, here is the explanation of HIV Encephalitis (AIDS-dementia complex):

HIV encephalitis (AIDS-dementia complex), causes progressive memory loss, intellectual deterioration, behavioral changes, and motor deficits. Pathologically, HIV encephalitis is characterized by diffuse myelin damage (spongy myelinopathy, gliosis), neuronal loss, vascular damage, microglial nodules, and lymphocytic infiltrates. HIV envelope glycoproteins cause the membranes of HIV-infected macrophages to fuse, forming multinucleated giant cells (MGC) which are the hallmark of HIV encephalitis.

I had this occur to me in 1995 after having recently started on protease inhibitors.

I was with some friends when all of a sudden, I could not speak. As the night progressed, my speech became worse and could not form logical sentences. It was like I was speaking in tongues!

The doctor thought the brain scans looked like PML but after doing a biopsy, found it was not.
