Doctor WatchDog Notification ServiceI just read an article about “should undercover patients check up on doctors,” and in fact I had thought about that in the past to get more realistic doctor ratings.
The American Medical Association (AMA) planned to allow so-called “secret shoppers” to monitor patient care in hospital waiting rooms and doctor’s offices, to help doctors improve patient care. However, it is currently on hold after its members voiced their opinion. Wow, that is a good idea! Since retail stores use secret shoppers, why not a doctor’s office?
Dr. Howard Chodash, an associate professor of gastroenterology at Southern Illinois University Medical School and an A.M.A. delegate representing the Illinois State Medical Society, said: “It is grossly unethical.” Sorry doc, but I bed to disagree on that. I think doctors should sometimes be monitored to measure things like making appointments, waiting times and the courteousness of staff.
