A new Australian study reports that the popular stimulant energy drink Red Bull, used by college students to workers trying to work through the night, can increase the risk of heart attack or stroke, even in young people.
Like everybody else, I know a lot of friends that down Red Bull before going out, in order to stay out all night, or study all night. I tried Red Bull a few years ago, and quickly gave it up. It made me dizzy, so that was it for me.
Scott Willoughby, the lead researcher from the Cardiovascular Research Centre at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, said: “One hour after they drank Red Bull, (their blood systems) were no longer normal. They were abnormal like we would expect in a patient with cardiovascular disease.”
You may not know that Red Bull is banned in Norway, Uruguay and Denmark because of health risks listed on its cans. Red Bull could be deadly if mixed with stress or high blood pressure, impairing proper blood vessel function and possibly increasing the risk of blood clotting.
I won’t say you should stop drinking Red Bull especially if you absolutely believe in its effects on you, but I guess its slogan, “Red Bull gives you wings,” may mean that literally in terms of been dead and flying to heaven with wings.
